Ideas are the Currency of the New Economy

This short articles explains my motivation behind Mojogoing.com and the Creative Cafe. As children we all show incredible creativity and imaginations but as we grow we are taught to withdraw and hide this side of ourselves. We have to rebuild and exercise these skills.

Ideas are the Currency of the New Economy
Numbers tell the story
By Linda Naiman

Why aren’t adults as creative as children?
For most, creativity has been buried by rules and regulations. Our educational system was designed during the Industrial Revolution over 200 years ago, to train us to be good workers and follow instructions.

Organizations that understand the relationship between creativity, innovation and performance, actively promote creativity in their employees; will win in the marketplace. The root of invention and innovation is creativity.

Hopefully taking time out of your day to try one of the Exercises will help you unlearn this non-creative behavior.

Understanding Flow Charts

I found this online and thought it was the funniest thing.

Flowcharts

Then I thought how fun it would be to create a flow chart of any simple activity we all might do.

  • Pick one of these topics
    • How do I pick what I’ll have for lunch or dinner
    • Choosing a TV show to watch when there is nothing I like on
    • Deciding how often to hit the snooze button
    • How to choose what to do on a weekend
  • Create a flow chart with more then 3 steps (draw it, write it, visio it)
  • Send me a link or image. (I’ll post it here)
  • Have Fun

Bonus: Do all choices or come up with your own.

Rxg4

I’m a big fan of the game chess and I have started a collection of chess sets. I’ve always wanted to design my own set and thought maybe it would be a fun challenge for you as well.

Even if you don’t know how to play that is ok, what I am looking for is a chess set theme. Cats vs Dogs, Lions vs Mice or Coffee.

  • Pick your theme
  • Can be two different sides like “Cats vs Dogs”
  • Can be just one overall theme like “Office Supplies” (where both sides are the same just one side is black and the other white like a traditional set).
  • Tell us who will be
    • Pawns
    • Rooks
    • Knights
    • Bishops
    • Queen
    • King
  • You can write about it, draw it, build it whatever way best get’s your idea across.
  • Have Fun!

Bonus: Challenge someone to a game of chess! Today!

Regrettable Band Names

Have you ever wondered if there are any bands that before they were famous, just picked anything for a name. Then became famous and now were stuck with it.

Photo from actual record store.

The photo shows a few but can you think of any others. Someone you may actually have heard on the radio.

Walking in Newport

While walking through Newport, RI, I decided to have a little fun taking pictures of common street signs. I have no idea what I’ll do with them yet but it was fun looking for them and setting up a quick shot. Here is a link to my results.

Will pose 4 food

Being away from home for a training seminar, I didn’t have access to usual array of creative tools. I was also participating in the annual Thing a Day challenge and hadn’t posted anything yet. Earlier, I had visited a Newberry Comics and picked up this little guy and quickly made him a sign.
